“New York, concrete jungle where dreams are made of
There’s nothin’ you can’t do
Now you’re in New York
These streets will make you feel brand new
Big lights will inspire you
Let’s hear it for New York, New York,
New York” –Alicia Keys

I walked into a room last week in New York, humming the Alicia Keys lyrics, having just walked 30 blocks through Central Park, and gasped. A concrete-less view of the city. As a person who is inspired by trees every day, I wonder how these trees offer a break from the sidewalks and streets. I wonder how they inspire New Yorkers to look up into branches and not buildings. To notice birds. I wonder who New Yorkers would be without Central Park.
