Laura Munson in the Media
Explore Laura’s Collected Conversations, Podcasts, and Features
Delve into a curated collection of Laura Munson’s most impactful media engagements, showcasing her journey as an author and writing teacher.
Laura Munson is a New York Times bestselling author, teacher, and the founder of Haven Writing Retreats and Programs. For nearly two decades, she has guided a global community of seekers from her base in the wilderness of Northwest Montana, establishing Haven as a premier sanctuary for deep, process-driven creative development. At the intersection of heart, mind, and rigorous craft, her work—including her signature retreats and the digital Nest archive—strives to dismantle commercial pressure and instead guide individuals toward creative completion, truth-telling, and a lifelong relationship with their own unique voice.
Laura’s own literary career spans decades of dedication to the written word across multiple genres. Her breakout New York Times Modern Love essay, “Those Aren’t Fighting Words, Dear,” became a global cultural phenomenon, breaking publication traffic records and launching her into international acclaim. Her subsequent memoir, This Is Not The Story You Think It Is, became a New York Times bestseller, a Target Breakout Book, and has been translated into nine languages. Whether on the page, in conversation, or in the Montana woods, Laura’s enduring mission remains the same: to help writers slow down, pay attention, and believe in what they truly have to say.

Into a Trance
It took three days to finally come out of the trance of speaking heart language with one of my literary heroines and writer sisters, Terry Tempest Williams.
I go into this trance when I write. I have never gone into it when I do speaking events. I have only partial memory of the words I spoke but it went past words for me. And I finally watched the video and saw, amid her elegant questions, true and pure joy in me…being seen by such an absolute woman. Having my book land in her heart when she had so much to do with healing my fiction years ago. It was one of the honors of my life. If you haven’t read her, you must. She is one of the most powerful voices of our time. Thank you, Terry. Thank you, Changing Hands bookstore. Support indie bookstores! Authors, support one another!
Thank you to Changing Hands Bookstore for presenting this virtual authors event.
