Haven is more than a writing retreat. It is a place where writers come to reconnect with their voice, their curiosity, and the work that has been waiting for them — sometimes for years.
There is no measuring stick here. No grades, no performance, no pressure to be further along than you are. As Laura says: “At Haven, attendees take a freefall into a free zone — and I’m holding the net. In over a thousand people, I have never once dropped it.”
People arrive at Haven from everywhere along the writing path. Some come with manuscripts. Some come with fragments. Some come with a long-lived knowing that it is finally time. What matters most is not where you are in the work — but your willingness to meet it.
The Haven Path
Haven has grown, over the years, into a sequence of programs — each one building on the last, each one designed to meet you exactly where you are.
There is never any pressure to continue beyond the program you are in. Sometimes, Haven 1 is enough to complete your writing dreams. But if you want more, the path is there — and Laura works exclusively with Haven alums, which means the further you go, the deeper the support becomes.
Haven 1 — The Essentials
A four-and-a-half-day immersion for writers at any stage — from those just beginning to those with manuscripts already underway. This is where the Haven work begins.
Haven 2 — Write Your Book
A workshop-based retreat at Laura’s Montana farmhouse, for Haven 1 alums who are committed to finishing a book. This is where voice becomes structure.
Haven 3 — Laura As Editor
A one-on-one editorial partnership, offered remotely, for writers who have completed Haven I and Haven II and are ready to bring their manuscript to completion.
